In 2018, Crecemos celebrates 25 years. On this occasion, AVSI-USA is supporting its long-term partner in Oaxaca, Mexico, to raise $5,000 as part of a larger campaign called "Be a hero for vulnerable children in Mexico". Through Global Giving, Crecemos was able to raise almost $8,000 and now AVSI-USA is committed to reach a total of at least $13,000 to guarantee that 500 children in Oaxaca beat the odds and stay in school.
Born in 1993, CRECEMOS translated as "Growing Together", is a community based organization that has served the academic, nutritional and social needs of the community in the semi-urban and rural areas near the city of Oaxaca, Mexico with dedication, intelligence and hope.
Today, Crecemos serves roughly 500 children and their families every year with a wide range of programs and services. We, at AVSI-USA, are very committed to a long-term partnership with Crecemos' mission by supporting their capacity building efforts along the path toward greater financial sustainability and broadening the impact of their work via a donor network called OPPORTUNITY.
OPPORTUNITY is an initiative of AVSI-USA to link donors from the U.S. with the projects that AVSI supports around the world. Through Opportunity, Donors participate in the "adventure of life" lived out in circumstances far different from one's own.
Currently, Opportunity is raising support and awareness for Crecemos. Our goal is to enable Crecemos to continue providing its community programs, which serve 500 children and 400 mothers through comprehensive programs in nutrition, academic support, sports and personal development in the poorest neighborhoods of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Opportunity donors commit to an annual contribution and receive regular updates from Crecemos and invitations to participate in the life of the organization.

Academic Support was the first activity created by Crecemos and it is a pillar of its community engagement. After-school tutoring and academic enrichment opportunities enable students to excel in and stay committed to their studies.
In an environment where early drop-out of school is very common, participation in school supported activities offered by Crecemos has enabled hundreds of young people to reach their full potential and continue on to secondary school and even to university.
Nutrition and good dietary habits are at the center of all activities at Crecemos. The daily breakfast provided at the Maria de Guadalupe Community Center in Monte Alban is a complete hot meal served to 500 children and women from the community.
More than a meal, children participate in growth monitoring, regular health check-ups, and intensive nutrition education. Good hygiene is also emphasized. Healthy habits are brought home through the significant level of participation of mothers as volunteers at the centers.
In order to ensure optimal physical and intellectual development, Crecemos offers opportunities for sports, dance, music, recreation and outings.
Structured activities and positive experiences allow children to grow and to aspire to great things.
Good nutrition, beauty and curiosity about the world are consistent elements of every activity proposed by Crecemos to the children, youth and parents.
