"Finally, a real job" - FDP's new social enterprise employs young adults in Bucharest, Romania

Young craftsmen at Proiect Mozaik RomaniaMay 3, 2012, marked the opening of "Proiect Mozaic," a workshop to produce and sell decorative mosaic pieces in Bucharest, Romania. The social enterprise is supported by AVSI Network member Fundatia Dezvoltarea Popoarelor (FDP) and aims to provide sustainable formal employment opportunities to young adults who are at risk because of social exclusion.

Since its inception in 1996, FDP has offered social and educational opportunities and employment assistance to over 4,000 people of minority or socially marginalized groups. This new workshop represents another big step forward in the history, showing there is still strong potential to grow in the future, especially thanks to the partnerships that helped to build the center with Menatwork Romania, Unimpresa Romania, Aslam, Confindustria and the Compagnia di Opere Sociali.

Simona Carobene, Operational Director of FDP in Bucharest, described the young people involved at Proiect Mozaic: "I've never seen them so happy! They keep telling me, 'Finally a real job'. At the end of each day, they even do the final cleanup!”

The day has been promoted on the FDP Facebook Page.
