To mark February, U.S. African American history month, the U.S. Consul General's outreach in Jerusalem co-sponsored a concert February 13, 2012, with Magnificat Institute, a music school of the Custody of the Holy Land which AVSI helps to support in Jerusalem. The choir featured the Yasmeen Choir of Magnificat Institute accompanied by the Julliard-graduate soprano Nicole Taylor.
The concert was an encounter between two different musical traditions, classical and spiritual, and placed the great American soprano alongside the developing musicians of the Jerusalem musical institute.
The concert took place in the Auditorium of St. Saviour’s Monastery in Jerusalem (near the New Gate), and was just one example of how the Magnificat Institute is a place of dialogue through music and beauty for people from all different backgrounds and beliefs.
